Technology and end-to-end information security
Technological innovation and information security are crucial factors in keeping Mattos Filho at the forefront of the legal market. We invest in technology that meets the highest Brazilian and international standards, facilitating and ensuring the excellence of processes for the benefit of both our professionals and clients, while also guaranteeing that a robust security structure protects their information.
IT Mídia, an important technology institution, ranked Mattos Filho among 2021’s 100 most innovative Brazilian companies for information technology – indeed, we were the only law firm to feature in the rankings, which IT Mídia has been releasing for more than two decades. The institution invited a committee of experts and journalists to conduct the assessment, which considers the culture and innovation processes/technologies the companies adopt.
The specific case we submitted for assessment was the firm’s hybrid work model project, known as Conecta. Grounded in the principles of well-being and flexibility, Conecta uses numerous technological resources to ensure the firm’s operations run smoothly, providing our professionals with the convenience of connecting and working both inside and outside our offices (refer to Chapter 5 for more information). IT Mídia’s award recognizes our collaborative work model, robust IT platform and drive to innovate.
2021 was also marked by Mattos Filho achieving ISO 27001 certification, an international standard that reinforces the firm’s commitment to securing client data, and ensures a safe and secure environment for working with, storing and processing information.
We had the support of a specialized consultancy throughout this process. It conducted a diagnostic analysis of our systems and the maturity of our controls and information security. At the end of the year, an independent certifier carried out a general audit, certifying Mattos Filho’s compliance with the standard’s requirements and confirming there were no critical points that would have prevented certification.
"Data security is a very sensitive issue. Clients audit us when they hire us, as they want to be sure we can look after their most sensitive business and strategic information. Receiving this internationally recognized certification represents accreditation of our good practices. ISO 27001 also gives us a significant competitive advantage"

Secure data in all situations
Mattos Filho has an extremely robust and well-structured compliance project regarding data use and protection. The firm’s internal dataflows are monitored without interruption, relying on hierarchy and controlled access. Our systems also incorporate monitoring processes for deadlines and communication, ensuring confidentiality whenever information is processed.
The firm’s information security culture is also based on the highest data security certification standards. The firm has an ongoing program to ensure our professionals receive regular training, keeping them up-to-date on data security and procedures for handling sensitive information. The same standards apply to Mattos Filho’s business partners and suppliers, which we also require to comply with the main certifications and observe the latest Brazilian and international market standards
All remote connections in our systems are encrypted, with two-factor identification and layers of protection that ensure information is properly secured. Once more, ISO 27001 certification guarantees this level of security irrespective of where our professionals access the information from.
"Given the nature of our business, we have always been very cautious when handling data. In addressing this issue at Mattos Filho, we focus on team training, constant system monitoring, and extremely high information security requirements. In light of the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD) taking effect in 2020, we have set up a specific governance framework with detailed processes and strict controls for processing personal data across all areas of the firm"

Mattos Filho's new phase of digital transformation
At Mattos Filho, our digital transformation plan proved successful in overcoming the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing the firm’s more than 1,600 professionals to work securely and efficiently outside our offices. During the first phase of our plan in 2017, we implemented cloud computing as a strategic technological tool for developing our business. In the second phase, we focused on digital work solutions for our professionals, as well as creating Portal Mattos Filho for our clients, an online platform with information on our event and webinar schedule and exclusive complementary material developed by our practices.
During the third phase, which commenced in 2020 and is expected to conclude in 2023, our main goal is to boost efficiency through automation and artificial intelligence, allowing professionals to focus on their activities, use data to gain new insights and make quicker decisions.
In 2021, we developed a series of dashboards for managing our people and business, implemented the new SAP financial operation system, and migrated our electronic management platform to the cloud.
See some of our key initiatives from the last year:
Conecta Tech
Our digital work culture ensures a more flexible work environment with a focus on freedom and well-being, without affecting efficiency and security levels. We have implemented solutions for improving communication and collaboration, as well as secure and easy access to our digital systems. More than 70% of the meeting rooms at our offices now feature technology to support our hybrid model, featuring voice recognition, video projection, and audio capabilities, facilitating connection and reducing maintenance costs
New business management platform – SAP
With SAP software, one of the top globally recognized tools, we have reinforced our commitment to governance and control of financial processes. As a more robust platform, SAP ensures our operations can continue and expand while also complying with our security protocols.
Case management
Our new internal case management system improves how we work throughout the different stages of cases, providing greater efficiency and visibility to important information in advance. The system also allows our lawyers to engage with not only the legal aspects of cases, but also financial efficiency aspects.
Electronic Document Management (EDM) in the cloud
With a system that features advanced security protocols and the encryption of stored material, our new EDM system provides greater mobility in accessing information and enhances productivity.
